Abstract:

The importance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the energy industry is increasing. Higher heat of combustion, higher thermal efficiency and environmental friendliness are its main advantages over oil and coal. LNG not only provides higher flexibility in the organization of supply, but also turns out to be cheaper for deliveries over a distance of more than 2 thousand km by sea and more than 4 thousand km by land. Therefore, the LNG market will develop more rapidly in the coming decades than the markets of two other energy sources - oil and coal. In order to use natural gas, it is necessary to equip reliable and economically profitable transportation routes from the field to the final consumer. One of the possibilities is the transportation of gas in liquefied form at low temperature. To ensure safe and reliable storage of liquefied gas at a temperature of -168 °C, very good mechanical properties of the base material and the welded joint on the tanks are necessary.
